How is a prophets reward different from a righteous man's reward? Or a reward
for a drink?
Mt 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his
angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Every man's works are different. So how can every man have the same reward?
Lk 6:35, Mt 5:46 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for
nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the
children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Lk 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds:
but this man hath done nothing amiss.
Ac 1:18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and
falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
Ro 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of
debt.
Does this verse say that a reward is given by debt to those who work? In
addition to grace?
1 Co 3:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man
shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
1 Co 3:14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he
shall receive a reward.
1 Co 9:17-18 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if
against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. What is
my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel
of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
Paul spoke of two rewards. One if he preached willingly. A different reward
if unwillingly.
Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility
and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen,
vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Col 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the
inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
1 Ti 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth
out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
2 Ti 4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him
according to his works:
Heb 2:2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every
transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
A Just recompence of reward. How can a missionary, someone who has made great
sacrifices for God receive the same reward as someone who never made those
sacrifices and it be called a "just recompense?"
Heb 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great
recompence of reward.
Heb 11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures
in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
2 Pe 2:13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they
that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes,
sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
2 Jn 8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have
wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
Is it possible to receive a partial reward?
Jud 11Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily
after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Re 11:18And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of
the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward
unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name,
small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Re 18:6Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double
according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
Re 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give
every man according as his work shall be.
A Penny a Day?
Matt. 20:1-16 "For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is
an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his
vineyard. 2And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a
day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3And he went out about the third
hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4And said unto
them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And
they went their way. 5Again he went out about the sixth and ninth
hour, and did likewise. 6And about the eleventh hour he went out, and
found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day
idle? 7They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto
them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall
ye receive. 8So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith
unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning
from the last unto the first. 9And when they came that were hired
about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. 10But when
the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they
likewise received every man a penny. 11And when they had received it,
they murmured against the goodman of the house, 12 Saying, These last
have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which
have borne the burden and heat of the day. 13But he answered one of
them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a
penny? 14Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will
give unto this last, even as unto thee. 15 Is it not lawful for me to
do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? 16So
the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few
chosen."
Could the penny represent eternal life, that all who work for Jesus will
receive? Or is this the just recompense of reward, the same for all?
Reign with Christ during the Millennium?
Luke 19:11-27 "And as they heard these things, he added and spake a
parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the
kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12He said therefore, A
certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom,
and to return. 13And he called his ten servants, and delivered them
ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 14But his
citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man
to reign over us. 15And it came to pass, that when he was returned,
having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called
unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man
had gained by trading. 16Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound
hath gained ten pounds. 17And he said unto him, Well, thou good
servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority
over ten cities. 18And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound
hath gained five pounds. 19And he said likewise to him, Be thou
also over five cities. 20And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here
is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 21For I
feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst
not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. 22And he saith unto
him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou
knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping
that I did not sow: 23Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into
the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 24And
he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to
him that hath ten pounds. 25(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath
ten pounds.) 26For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath
shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken
away from him. 27But those mine enemies, which would not that I
should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me."
Notice that according to their labor, how they invested what God gave to
them, then they were given rule over cities? Could this be how we will be kings
unto God?
Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to
him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Rev. 5:9 Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for
thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred,
and tongue, and people, and nation; 10And hast made us unto our
God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Rev. 21:23-26 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to
shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the
light thereof. 24And the nations of them which are saved shall walk
in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their
glory and honour into it. 25And the gates of it shall not be shut
at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 26And they shall
bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
Rewards to the Overcomer!
Re 2:7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which
is in the midst of the paradise of God.
1. Eat of the tree and have access to the paradise of God.
Re 2:11He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
2. No harm from the second death.
Re 2:17He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and
will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man
knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
3. Eat of hidden manna. Receive a white stone and a new name.
Re 2:26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will
I give power over the nations:
4. Power over the nations. Could this be as a king and priest?
Re 3:5He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I
will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name
before my Father, and before his angels.
5. A white raiment, his name in the book of life, & his name confessed
before heaven.
Re 3:12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and
he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the
name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of
heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
6. A place in the temple of God. Access. Could this be as a priest? He
will receive the name of God and the city of God.
Re 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even
as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
7. A throne or dominion in some way simular to Jesus? Notice the
transition of possession of the throne in this verse. If you overcome, you can sit
with me in my throne. Ok, you can sit with Jesus on Jesus throne. Now
notice, even as I overcame and sat down with the Father in his throne.
At one time Jesus throne was considered the Father's! But when Jesus overcame,
it became his throne! Once again, kings unto God.
Re 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God,
and he shall be my son.
8. Shall receive all things. Including, being a son of God.
The widows mites. Rewarded according to sacrifice or ability. Although all do
not have the same amount, God judged according to the sacrifice made!
Mk 12:41-44 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the
people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42And
there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a
farthing. 43And he called unto him his disciples, and saith
unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than
all they which have cast into the treasury: 44For all they did
cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even
all her living.
Matt. 6:19-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and
rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But
lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
While we are left to speculate just what reward God has for us, it seem John
is admonishing us to be careful not to be deceived, so that we can receive a
Full REWARD! I want all that God has for me! Don't you?
